Starflowers and Bluebirds

In late May I watch and wait for a small wild flower to bloom in the woods of Wellfleet.

With help from Uncle Bob we finally put a name to it. Bob thought it was "most unusual" that the flower has seven petals.

Then he sent an email with it's name: Trientalis borealis or Starflower. I should have guessed.

Rose picked a bunch. And even though I was shocked that she had, they are very pretty on the kitchen windowsill. There are also hundreds of plants across the road. This summer and fall, I'll start transplanting to our yard and see what grows. And next summer I think I'll pick a just a few for the window sill.

My grandmother saw an Eastern Bluebird fifty years ago and pointed it out to me. I may have seen a blur of blue at that time, but this week we all saw a pair close up.
